Corpus Christi Parish was founded in Woodside by the Rev. Charles J. Cary on June 18, 1937. Masses were celebrated at the Hobart Theater in those early days. Father Cary resided with Father Peter Harrigan at 54-07 32 Ave, the heart of the parish in those days. Bishop Edmund Molloy was the Bishop of Brooklyn at the time. On May 15, 1938 ground was broken for the church buildings at 60th Street and 32nd Avenue. The first Mass was celebrated in the new church on May 22, 1940. The 1960’s saw the construction of our beautiful school building and the convent on 60th Street and the rectory building on 61st. The story of Corpus Christi, as our name implies, is a story of people in love with Jesus and each other. Our parish building provide a place for us to know, to love, and to serve Him and to build up the Body of Christ. |
